What a great find! Howard Wimshurst shows us how to create this complex write-on transition, but he uses traditional animation techniques to get us there. Very similar to basic Photoshop Techniques by Shane Dering, Howard does a lot of hand drawn, but uses a program called TVPaint.

TVPaint Animation is a complete and versatile software dedicated to drawing, storyboarding and to 2D traditional animation (including management of soundtracks), and all in a single interface.
